The Milwaukee Brewers completed their four game series with the Cincinnati Reds today. On a day where principle owner Mark Attanasio offered free tickets to conclude the 2005 home stand and just over 27,000 fans attended the afternoon game. And they were treated to a win as Gary Glover pitched seven strong innings for the 2-0 win.
Glover allowed just two hits in the game, walked one, and struck out a career-high ten Reds as the Brewers shutout Cincinnati. Wes Helms pinch hit for Glover in the seventh and Jose Capellan came on in the eighth. He allowed a lead off walk and a single before Yost made the call for Julio Santana who struck out Felipe Lopez to end the inning. Derrick Turnbow came on in the ninth to slam the door on the Reds. Turnbow struck out Adam Dunn to lead off the inning and the following two outs came by a fly ball and grounder to third. It was his 38th save this year in just 42 tries.
Bill Hall led off the fifth inning with a double. He then reached third on a grounder by Rickie Weeks. Chad Moeller tried to squeeze Hall home but was hit in the hand by Eric Milton. Moeller left the game with a contusion on his index finger. Jeff Cirillo was called on to pinch hit after Hall was sent back to the bag and laced a single up the gut and under the glove of Lopez to score Hall. Brady Clark then followed with a triple to score Cirillo, giving the Crew a 2-0 lead and enough to hold on for the win.
The Brewers will now head to Pittsburgh to finish the season with a three-game series. With the win today they are within one win of a .500 season.
