Brewers Climb Above .500 Mark

Reds Fall 6-2

Dennis Jenders

The Brewers have been playing some of their best baseball and with a 6-2 victory over the Reds Tuesday night they are a game over .500 and within 2 games of securing a non-losing season!

Rick Helling pitched six strong innings allowing only three hits and one earned run while striking out a season high eight batters. Helling retired 15 straights batters after giving up two singles in the first. Felipe Lopez hit a homer of Helling in the top of the sixth to bring the score to 3-1.

J.J. Hardy hit his eighth homer of the season in the bottom of the first and Rickie Weeks had an RBI single in the third. But after Lopez's home run the Brewers offense came to life to secure the win. Brady Clark hit a double in the bottom of the sixth to plate Wes Helms and Weeks. He advanced to third on a bad throw and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

The Reds would score one more run in the top of the eighth off reliver Julio Santana who hasn't made an appearance since early August. There was little drama in the game but Carlos Lee provided some nice defense in the seventh with two on and two out when he snatched Edwin Carnacion's hit that was right down the left field line to end the inning.

Derrick Turnbow came on in the ninth for his 37th save in 41 chances. The Brewers will take on the Reds tomorrow evening when Aaron Harang faces Chris Capuano. Capuano could become the fourth player in Brewers history to record 19 wins. He would join Teddy Higuera, Mike Caldwell and Jim Colborn on a very short list.
