Strong Weeks

Brewers Take Series 2-1

Dennis Jenders

The Brewers triumped over the Astros Sunday winning 4-2 in a very close game. Powered by Rickie Weeks' homerun in the fourth the Brewers fought off the NL Wild Card leaders taking the series 2 games to 1.

Carlos Lee started things off with an RBI single in the first and Weeks followed with a two-run blast in the fourth to give the Brewers a 3-1 lead. Chad Moeller would tack on another run in the sixth with a sacrifice to third to score Bill Hall.

Rick Helling won his first game as a starter going seven scoreless innings and giving up only five hits with a season-high six strikeouts, he also walked three.

Dana Eveland releived Helling in the eighth and quickly found trouble as he gave up a solo shot to Chris Burke on the first pitch he threw. Jose Vizcaino followed it up with a triple and scored on a grounder by Jason Lane. But Eveland worked his way out of trouble and finished the inning.

Derrick Turnbow worked a scoreless ninth for his 31st save in 34 tries insuring the win for Helling and pulling the Brewers within one win of the .500 mark. With 19 games left on the season the Brewers need to win 11 more for a winning season, or just 10 more to reach .500 for the year.
