Perfect 10

Davis Finally Gets 10th Win

Dennis Jenders

The offense finally helped out Doug Davis. After failing him in his previous 14 tries the offense picked it up to support Davis who had command issues the entire game. The Brewers beat Roger Clemens and the Astros 7-4.

Davis didn't have his best control and struggled at times as he went five innings giving up six hits and three runs, two earned, while striking out six. Davis last won on June 22, and had 10 no-decisions since. Yost said "you really can't count on scoring five runs off of Roger Clemens, but tonight, luckily, we did," and they team finally helped Davis out.

Clemens lasted just three innings as Milwaukee struck early with J.J. Hardy hitting a homerun in the first. After Jason Lane tied the game with his own solo shot in the next inning the Brewers struck back with Damian Miller going yard scoring Rickie Weeks and giving the Crew a 3-1 lead.

Heading into the third the Astros scored again but the offense came right back with Weeks scoring Lyle Overbay and Carlos Lee, both reaching on walks, on a single to left.

Clemens started things off in the second with a double over the head of Geoff Jenkins and possibly tweaked his left hamstring on the bases. Phil Garner and the trainer headed out to check on him but he said he was fine. Garner didn't take any chances after the offense attack in the third and yanked Clemens.

Ezequiel Astacio took over in the fourth and gave up an RBI single to Carlos Lee in sixth. The hot hitting Hardy would add another run off his single in the seventh.

With the top three starters facing the Brewers on this homestand Milwaukee started off strong and didn't relenquish in the win. The Brewers will face Andy Pettite tomorrow.
