J.J. Hardy hit his first career grand slam Wednesday night, also collecting a single and two doubles on the night with 6 RBIs - all career highs. "I'm seeing the ball good and finding holes. The first half was the hardest struggle I've ever had. I'm a lot more comfortable now" Hardy said. The Brewers won 14-5.
Hardy made the team this year after missing most of 2004 with a season-ending shoulder injury. After coming back he struggled mightly but has really picked up the pace since the All-Star Break with a .308 average, 23 RBIs and five of his six homeruns on the season. While making solid contact throughout the year the hits are finally falling and he has been one of the best Brewers with runners in scoring position.
Not to be outdone Brady Clark, Lyle Overbay, Chad Moeller and the red-hot Geoff Jenkins also hit homers in the game giving the club the most runs scored since their October 7, 2001 contest against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Chris Capuano won his 16th game of the year matching his season high for strikeouts with eight. Allowing five runs on nine hits he last an out shy of seven innings and out-dueled Eric Milton who gave up two of the homeruns on the night. Incidently Milton leads the majors with 39 homers given up.
The Brewers return home to face the Wild-Card leading Houston Astros for a three-game series. Doug Davis (9-10, 4.06 ERA) will face Roger Clemens (11-6, 1.57 ERA). Davis is still in search of his tenth win on the season, this will be his 15th try on the season.
