The Milwaukee Brewers are coming home with a .500 record after beating the Phillies 2-0 and taking the series 2-1. They also posted a 4-2 mark on the road with a 2-1 series againt the Mets leaving them 4 games out in the Wild Card race.
Tomo Ohka was quoted as saying he had "nothing special" during warm-ups but went on to strike out nine, a season-high, without walking a batter. Ohka retired 12 straight before his counter-part Vicente Padilla has a leadoff single in the sixth. Chase Utley would come within inches of tying the game before Brady Clark tracked down his long fly ball, banging against the padding to record the third out.
Ohka would go on to retire 21 of the last 23 batters. Derrick Turnbow came on in the ninth to record his 24th save in 27 attempts.
The only runs came in the third when Chad Moeller hustled into second with one out and Brady Clark came on and was immediately tagged in the hip by Padilla sending him to first. Then rookie Rickie Weeks, whose father was on hand to see his son again, doubled deep against the wall as Pat Burrell misplayed the ball allowing both Moeller and Clark to score easily.
Milwaukee will now go home four games back in the Wild Card race, which may be temporary as the Astros are still playing. With three games against St. Louis they will have a day off on Thursday before Cincinnati comes to town for a three-game weekend series. The Brewers can't look to far ahead, but with games against Houston, Colorado and Florida they have a legitimate shot at making a run for the Wild Card before closing out August with Atlanta and Pittsburgh.
