Brewers vs. Cardinals Preview

Brewers Face Seven Game Road Trip

Dennis Jenders

The Brewers head to St. Louis to take on the NL Central leading Cardinals for a four game series this week. The Brewers, in 3rd place, are 14.5 games behind the leading Cards but will need to at least split the series to keep their standing in the NL Central and to continue towards a productive season.

Two games under .500 the Brewers will need a strong showing behind their pitching to improve their 1-5 record this year against St. Louis. Winning 5 of their last 6 the Brewers had their first winning road trip against Atlanta, not since the Chicago and Pittsburgh series' at the beginning of the year have the Brewers won on the road (19-30 record).

The Cardinals will be their biggest test of the upcoming road trip with the Cincinnati Reds closing out the trip this weekend. With only 3 long road trips left this year the Brewers will be looking very good if they can find a way to at least split on the road. With the majority of the games at friendly Miller Park the Brewers will have the chance at it's first winning season since 1992.

Tonight the Brewers will send Victor Santos to the mound vs. Matt Morris. Morris has been stellar for the Cardinals with a 10-3 record and a 3.10 ERA. Santos has been nearly as good for the Brewers, but the lack of run support has left him with a 2-9 record and a very good 3.50 ERA. Tuesday will feature Doug Davis against Jeff Suppan, Wednesday will have Ben Sheets vs. Mark Mulder, and Chris Capuano will close the series out against Jason Marquis.
