Cubs vs. Brewers Preview

Can the Crew keep the winning streak going?

Dennis Jenders

Your Milwaukee Brewers are coming off their first series sweep since July 2004. With four consecutive wins the Brewers enter the Chicago Cubs series as hot as they could be. Scoring 13 runs with 19 hits Sunday it was the club's most since they had 19 hits in a 13-1 victory at Minnesota on June 27, 2003.

Lyle Overbay had a career-high 5 for 5 performance sparking the spanking that the Brewers gave the Reds. Both Overbay and Geoff Jenkins launched shots over the fences. Jenkins has been picking up the slack in the middle of the order as Carlos Lee slowly heats up. Brady Clark, Damian Miller and Russell Branyan have also been instrumental as their timely hitting has given the Brewers runs when needed. But can the bats stay hot for the upcoming series?

The Cubs have quite a slugger in Lee, Derrek Lee that would be. Lee has left Chicago saying "Sammy who"? Lee is leading the National League with 8 homers, 30 RBIs, 9 doubles and a .787 slugging percentage. Coupled with a .416 average Lee has been nothing short of amazing for the Cubs. But with Nomar Garciaparra and Kerry Wood on the DL for an extended period of time can Lee carry the Cubs?

The Central Division lead currently belongs to the Brewer killing Cardinals - but the Brewers are just one game behind the second place Cubbies. With a series sweep the Brewers could find themselves a game above .500 and in second place. The Crew will look to take advantage of Victor Zambrano tonight as they send lefty Chris Capuano to the mound.
