Chris Carpenter Dazzles Brewers

Cards' Grudzielanek hits for the cycle in Loss

The St. Louis Cardinals mastery of the Milwaukee Brewers continued Wednesday as they defeated the Brewers 6-3. Chris Carpenter struck-out a career best 12 en route to their 11th victory in 12 games, the Cardinals best start since 1982 when they went to the World Series beating the Brewers, who were members of the American League at the time.

Victor Santos gave up a lead-off homerun to Mark Grudzielanek, who would hit for the cycle, in the first. The offense did not stop there as Santos faced the first eight batters in the Cardinal lineup. Larry Walker doubled to center and Albert Pujols singled to right after the Grudzielanek homer. Jim Edmonds then doubled to center scoring Walker and Pujols. Abraham Nunez would reach on a fielder's choice three batters later to score Pujols giving Carpenter an early 3-0 lead.

Russell Branyan hit a two-run homer in the sixth and Chad Moeller had an RBI single in the fifth to score Bill Hall. But Santos looked shaky all day before being pulled after the fourth-inning.

The Brewers will look to rebound against the Cardinals and find a way to win tomorrow as they make up Monday's game. With the weather threatening again it might be best if the Brewers get the day off before they take on Cincinnati.
