Ben Sheets Sidelined

Condition Will Keep Sheets In Houston

Dennis Jenders

Brewers right-hander Ben Sheets was hospitalized in Houston Thursday with an inflamed nerve in his inner ear, a condition called vestibular neuritis.

Recovering from the flu-bug that has been passed around the club house Sheets pitched Wednesday evening in a 6-1 defeat. Although sharp he did look exhausted and there was word he was still suffering the effects of the infection.

It was reported Sheets was had experienced dizziness and vomiting before calling Brewers trainers Thursday morning. After being hospitalized he was diagnosed with the disorder, which he suffered from last year as well.

The staff ace will remain in Houston while the Brewers travel further west to meet the San Francisco Giants for a three-game series this weekend. Sheets is scheduled to pitch Monday in St. Louis but Wes Obermueller would be a likely replacement if Sheets is unable to go.
