The Milwaukee Brewers' Winter Warm-Up Event kicked off Wednesday evening when the club hosted a free autograph session at the Fan Zone store inside Miller Park. The winter weather didn't warm up much, but plenty of fans were on hand for the event.
Starting at 5:00 PM Brewers manager Ned Yost, closer Derrick Turnbow and infielder Bill Hall were on hand to sign autographs. Fans began to form a line roughly two hours before the event to see their favorite players and take advantage of the store sale going on until December 4th, everything is discounted 15%.
This reporter didn't get in line until 5:00 PM and I just made it to the front of the line to catch Turnbow and Hall before they relinquished their seats to first baseman Lyle Overbay, reliever Matt Wise and new coach Dale Sveum at 6:00 PM.
Both Turnbow and Billy Hall were nice enough to sign my baseballs before their session ended. They both were very kind and they both seemed very happy by all the attention of the session. Although I missed the coach I was right there to get the next set of autographs.
Wise was also very kind and talkative. Overbay seemed a bit stiff, but was still very nice and with his future in doubt he still is contributing to club activities with a smile.
The club kept fans and children happy by surprising everyone with the famous Sausages and Bernie Brewer decked out as Santa Claus. Approximately 300-400 people were in line for autographs and every one of the braved the cold to see their team.
The Winter Warm-Up event will continue on Thursday when the Brewers will unveil new jerseys during a press conference and fashion show at the .300 club. The event is closed to the public but the event will be covered on 620 WTMJ from 6:00-8:00 PM and on FSN North from 7:00-8:00 PM.
