The Milwaukee Brewers took another big step toward .500 baseball with a solid 4-2 victory over the Washigton Nationals Thursday afternoon. The win, in the Brewers first game after the All-Star break, not only moves them to just three games under the even-steven mark but it also sets a good tone for the second-half.
There were many good signs from the Brewers victory Thursday that inspires hope for the second-half:
The Brewers won despite their big bopper, Carlos Lee, striking out a whopping four times.
Both Geoff Jenkins and Damian Miller continue to emerge from their respective early-season slumps. Jenkins went 3-for-4 and hit his 10th homerun in the win. Miller was 2-for-3 and had 3 RBIs, including the decisive 2-run double in the botom of the 8th inning to give the Brewers the lead.
Derrick Turnbow recorded another save with a solid 9th inning.
Lefty Doug Davis pitched strong, going 7 innings while allowing just 4 hits and two walks. He also tied a career high in strikeouts with 9, taking advantage of the mid-afternoon shadows in Miller Park.
The Brewers continue their four-game series with the Nationals at 7:05 pm Friday with staff ace Ben Sheets going to the mound verses the Nationals Livan Hernandez (or Estaban Loaiza if Hernandez isn't ready after his All-Star appearance).
